Step 1 - Meet and Greet

Don't get caught up in the set-up of your session. Make sure you have things ready ahead of delegates arriving, so when they do arrive you can take the time to say hello, introduce yourself and start to build rapport.

Step 2 - Learn and remember people's names.

This is a crucial step if you want to build rapport and create a positive learning environment. I'm not sure if I'm good or bad at remembering names. If you are not good at this then read our article on 'how to remember people's names'.

Step 3 - Create Groundrule

Having clear groundrules will help you create an environment condusive to learning.

Step 4 - Seek first to understand, then be understood

As Confucius said, "Seek first to understand, then be understood" the more you understand the other person, their viewpoint and their requirements, the quick you will build rapport.

If it's all ABOUT YOU, then rapport is hard to establish.
